Snake On The Porch

Hoss was going to sit on the front porch with a cold drink, til he opened the door and saw this black snake crawling towards him on the handrail...chasing a frog. It stayed there long enough for me to get a good look at it, then it flopped over the side to the ground. About 30 minutes later I walked out to check and see if it came back....it DID. It was draped over the rafters, watching a lizard that was on one of my fairy/bird cages. I ran to grab my camera and got a few pics then started recording video of it; I could tell the snake was about the eat the lizard any second! But my batteries went dead...dirty word!

I know it's kind of foggy, but it's 72 degrees inside and 105 outside, so the camera takes time to adjust. Can you see the green lizard on the lavender fairy cage? Now look right above that lizard and you'll see the middle of the snake. The snake's head is just above the hook to the left of the lizard; and it is black on top, white underneath. I got a few photos like this before the batteries died. So I ran back inside looking everywhere for a couple AA batteries, all those damn remotes and all dead or dying batteries! lol.... the last remote had two so I used those, and took off out the door....too late, the lizard was gone, in the snake's belly I'm pretty sure!....and the snake was looking at me sideways. But then he decided to stretch out between sheets of tin on the roof...here's a pic of that. Of course now I'm terrified of walking out the front door....and,oh,yeah...that frog it was chasing in the first place? While we were standing around looking at the snake with the front door open.....it scooted itself right in the house and it now is on the wall next to the ceiling by the front door!

See it right up in the very corner of the roof? You can see about an inch of it's head sticking out in the open..it's white and black. It's in the little tunnel the tin makes...the rest of it is along the white rafter between the tin and the rafter.....I think this is just a black racer snake.

  1. I don't like snakes even the ones that are harmless. Every so often we get one sitting on the window ledge near the door. But they take off when they see me with the broom. Did he get the lizard?

  2. Yikes you win for close snake encounters this summer(-: Don't think I would be happy with it crawling on the rafters.(-:

  3. EEwwwwwww that would have me completely creeped out. We don't really have snakes at all here. I can probably count on one hand how many I've seen in my whole life, thats mostly because we used to go camping too., DONT like them.
