Bandana Dress or Halter Top-Flower Power!
This is very quick, and easy enough for a first time sewer...and, will only cost you$2.
It's perfect for taking on vacation since it dries so fast. You'll need:
2 cotton bandanas-$1 each or less
sewing machine with thread to match
scissors
safety pin to pull string ties through
wash and dry your bandanas to remove the sizing and make sure they shrink and any color runs off. Press them smooth and line them up, matching the printed words on the border. Cut about 1 1/2" off the 2 sides; you'll have 4 strips. These will be used as your string ties.
decide how much you need to cut off of the top corners. I cut about 3"x6" triangle shape. This will be the underarms.
sew 2 of the cut off strips to each other, making 2 long strips. Fold the raw edge in and press it. Then fold in again and press. You'll wind up with a very narrow string; stitch down the center and tie a small knot on each end.
sew the sides together, then zig zag stitch over the edges. Fold down the raw edges of the armholes, press, and fold and press again. Sew along the edge. Fold over the neck front edge and sew it down for the casing. Do the same to the neck back edge.
Pin the safety pin to one of your finished string ties; thread it through one of the casings. When you get the string centered, sew down the string with a few stitches. This is so it won't pull out and get lost in the wash! Do the same do the other casing.
Now you're finished! Make one for every day of the week. If you need a larger size, use more bandanas :D
