A Little Tin Purse Craft

A couple weeks ado I bought this sweet little metal purse shaped like a spool of thread with a J.P. Coats vintage advertisement on it. I decided to keep it for myself and set it on my bookshelf in the bedroom on some sewing books. But the other day I got the idea to actually turn it into something functional, something I will actually use. Since it's metal, I thought why not glue a magnet to the inside to hold pins and needles, and throw in some basic thread colors for quick repairs, and a small scissors. It came out great, and here's what I did.

The little tin purse was a quarter; I just had to have it, but no real idea of doing anything other than looking at it, lol! And I used one of those freebie fridge magnets like you get from politicians or pizza or something; so that's free. The baked beans can was the right size to trace a circle onto the magnet to cut out and glue to one end to hold pins and needles. You can buy magnetic sheets at a craft store; I bought some at Walmart, 2 sheets for $1.98 with adhesive already on it...but hey, use up those useless promo ones first! I traced the circle, cut it out, and used Aleene's Tacky glue to adhere it to the inside of the purse. **oh, by the way, check first and make sure the magnet is strong enough to hold the needles and pins!**

Now it's a sewing kit!

And it's functional art:) It's very handy here in case I need to sew on a button or fix a zipper at the last minute.

I'm very sad that all my photos are on my harddrive in my fried computer; I know it's okay, we tried to piece together another computer out of a few we had laying around but it's something about the video card or resolution; and I haven't been able to get an internet connection on it yet. I had just joined a group to share photos, too....and all the recent projects I made and photographed are on it. Just give me some time, and we'll figure something out; I can't afford a new one right now; and it's really not at the top of my high priority list, lol!

So I'll be around, I have a few projects invovling fairies to show you!
Have a great day...

I have a western purse like that. I use it for its purpose at times. But yours is a steal for a quarter! Those things are pricey new! Great use for it too(-:
